Erin Tidwell will mentor for Pitch Wars 2019

Fairwood Writer Erin A. Tidwell will be a Pitch Wars 2019 mentor. Erin is an alumni of Pitch Wars 2016, and will be co-mentoring in the Adult SFF genre with author Hayley Stone.

They'll be accepting submissions only from September 25 through 27, 2019. Check out Erin and Hayley's Pitch Wars wishlist on Hayley's blog.

New Story from Harold Gross

Check out the new story from Fairwood alum Harold Gross in the newly released anthology, Alternative Truths III: Endgame, the final volume in the Alternative Truths series from B Cubed Press. Harold's story, "Skin in the Game," explores what might happen if our leaders were held a bit more responsible for their decisions, right or wrong, in very permanent ways.

Edited by Bob Brown and Jess Faraday, this anthology offers stories and essays by 30 writers and political thinkers examining some possible outcomes of our political decisions. Among them is a look, in Paula Hammond's "Fortunate Son," at a Donald Trump who answered his country's call to serve in Vietnam.

Fairwood alum Kate Marshall is on a roll these days!  Fresh off the publication of her YA thriller and inclusion in a Year's Best anthology, Kate now offers up a new story in Beneath Ceaseless Skies' Tenth Anniversary issue.

"We Ragged Few" is Kate's third appearance in Beneath Ceaseless Skies.  Check them all out!

End of an Era

We regret to announce that after many years, the Fairwood Writers will not be running the writers' workshop at Norwescon 42.  The convention will be taking the workshops in a new direction in 2019, and we wish them every success.

It's been an honor and a privilege to work with so many hard-working writers from the Northwest and beyond over the years.  We hope to see you all soon at conventions and other events.

One of 2017's Best

   

The editors of The Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy 2018 have selected Fairwood alum Kate Marshall's story, "Destroy the City with Me Tonight," to appear in the latest anthology showcasing the country's best short fiction.

Due out in October, this anthology features N.K. Jemisin's picks of the top 10 fantasy and top 10 science fiction short stories published in 2017.

Kate's story first appeared in the superhero anthology, Behind the Mask.

New Story from Dean Wells

"Cold Ink," the latest installment in Fairwood member Dean Wells' ongoing "Clockwork Millennials" series, is now available at Beneath Ceaseless Skies.  A tale of love gone horribly wrong, "Cold Ink" examines what it still means to be human in a world of gods and sentient machines.

Book Launch

Come celebrate the launch of Fairwood alum Kate Marshall's new YA thriller, I Am Still Alive, with a signing on July 29 at University Bookstore.

In a starred review, Kirkus describes Kate's latest book as "A taut, gripping page-turner with a strong female hero to root for."

Kate's short sf and fantasy stories have appeared in Beneath Ceaseless Skies, Crossed Genres and other publications. And, writing as Kathleen Kimmel, she's published several historical romances.
